WHY CLERK
WHY I'M RUNNING FOR BARNSTABLE COUNTY CLERK OF COURTS
As your current State Senator, I fight for the Plymouth-Barnstable District's fair share of state support including advocating for bills and programs for economic development, protecting our environment, health and finance. I have announced that I am running for Barnstable County Superior Court Clerk in the November 2024 election.
I want to use my 30 years as a litigator as well as my extensive community service background, relationships and understanding of state government and finances, to make the office of Barnstable County Clerk more responsive to public needs.
The Clerk of Courts is one of three influential Barnstable County justice system leaders along with the District Attorney and the Sheriff.
In 2022, Barnstable County voted for fresh leadership in the offices of District Attorney and Sheriff. They’ve both made changes in their organizations improving efficiency and equity. Now it’s time to do the same thing in the office of the Barnstable County Clerk of the Court.
This is a critical leadership position that ensures our court functions fairly and efficiently under the law – a cornerstone of a fair society that is not to be taken lightly.
We, the citizens of Barnstable County, owe it to ourselves to elect someone with the proper experience, temperament, attention to detail, and determination to make this office all that it can be.
I’ve spent decades as a trial attorney and have worked in courts in a number of states. I’ve also briefed before the Supreme Court of the United States. But most importantly I’ve been a public servant. Whether it was at the municipal, county or state level – serving on the Falmouth Select Board, as the Deputy Speaker of the Barnstable County Assembly of Delegates and as a State Senator – I have made it my life’s mission to serve others.
I hope to earn your trust and your vote for Barnstable County Clerk of Courts so that I can bring that spirit of service to an office of incredible importance.
